100 Christmas lunch boxes for local families

Vicki Smith, our Client Relationship Manager, has been very busy recently helping to organise 100 Christmas lunch boxes for local families.

Since April 2020, Vicki has been part of a Facebook ‘COVID Support Group’ for the Witney area, established to help local businesses and the West Oxfordshire Community. With Christmas approaching, one of the support group members thought it would be a good idea to help struggling families by providing Christmas lunch in a box.

The idea snowballed and, within a short space of time, the original target of providing 25 boxes rose to 100 requests. The crowd funding target was increased and, thanks to the support of local residents and businesses, was quickly achieved.

Then began the mammoth task of organising 100 Christmas Day lunches. To ensure safe conditions were maintained amidst Coronavirus restrictions, Mathews Comfort was happy to provide office space and a team of volunteers to help pack the boxes. As you can see from the pictures, the office was completely taken over!

All 100 boxes were delivered to schools and Churches last week and will, hopefully, have made Christmas a little easier for local families. As well as items placed in the box, families also received a voucher for the butcher’s and Sainsburys.

2020 has certainly been a year like no other, but this initiative has shown how local businesses and the community will always pull together to help those less fortunate. We wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas and look forward to better times in 2021.
