We are delighted to announce our trainee Financial Planner, Giedre Azukaite, has been awarded ‘Training Contract Delegate of the Year’ at the recent NextGen Planners digital conference, where she was singled out for her hard work and commitment.

Mathews Comfort is an active member of the NextGen Planners community, which was set up to promote ‘best practice’ among forward thinking financial planners, with a bias towards younger Financial Planners. The annual NextGen Planners one-day conference was this year set to be held in London on 25th June, but given the coronavirus pandemic, was unfortunately cancelled. Instead, NextGen decided to ‘go big’ and host a week-long digital conference, comprising events, discussions, interviews, charity fundraisers and, for the first time ever, the NextGen ‘Future for the Profession’ Awards.

The conference kicked off with a 24-hour livestream global commute, streaming a 30-minute morning show across all 24 time zones. Guests from the global financial planning community were interviewed while raising money for charity, including UK charities, CF Warriors and The Stroke Association. Our Director of Financial Planning, James Mousley, participated, committing to an extraordinary charity workout challenge - a 30-minute run and 30-minute tyre flip for 5 hours nonstop!

The second day comprised digital sessions on five different themes: The Adviser Gap, Innovation, Financial Planning, Financial Wellbeing and Leadership. Again, James took part, participating in a discussion entitled ‘Keeping an eye on the prize’ along with a peer from his Adviser Gap podcast.

With the emphasis on networking and meeting financial planners from other firms as much as building knowledge, we all looked forward to the traditional Curry Night, which this year was digital and saw us all preparing our own curries.

A real highlight of the conference was the NextGen Future of the Profession Awards, held for the first time this year. We were extremely proud when our Trainee Financial Planner, Giedre Azukaite, was awarded NextGen Planners ‘Training Contract Delegate of the Year’. Giedre is currently enrolled on a 2-year training contract with NextGen Planners, which provides a comprehensive training and support package covering skills, knowledge and behaviour.

She comments:

“I didn’t expect to win and it was a total surprise. Being on the shortlist was already a victory. The award is a sign I have made a good decision in moving to the UK and choosing the Financial Planning profession. Now, I am more motivated than ever to pass my forthcoming exams and justify winning the award. I really enjoy being part of the NextGen Planners community, which promotes self-development and is helping me build the skills I need as a Financial Planner.”

On the main conference day, thirty members presented 10-minute speeches, including Giedre, who delivered a speech entitled: ‘The Most Valuable Lessons Are Outside the Comfort Zone’. She explains: “We are naturally afraid of new experiences and unknown situations, but this is the only way to grow and gain new skills. If I’m not sure whether to take a new step, I ask myself: ‘Will I regret it if I don’t try?’ If the answer is yes, I’ll give it a go.”

The Mathews Comfort team is hugely proud of Giedre and all that she has achieved in the short time that she’s been with us. She has certainly set the bar high and we can’t wait to see what Giedre achieves next!
