George Wagerfield joined Mathews Comfort in 2012 as an Administrator. Since then, he has gained his Level 4 Diploma qualifications and became one of our Independent Lifestyle Financial Planners.

George is a valued member of the team and we thought our clients would like to get to know a little bit more about him.

What is your role at Mathews Comfort?
I work with families, who are - often through lack of time and understanding – nervous about making financial decisions. I work with them, giving them time, knowledge and the accountability to move forward and live their desired lifestyle.

What is a typical day in the life at Mathews Comfort?
A typical day for me always starts with a cup of tea, and a catch up with my colleagues. Not only on a social note, but also looking at work we have going on. During the day, I will be building financial plans, keeping in contact with clients and keeping on top of any enhancements we are making for them. Mixed in with this will be several team conversations and meetings.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Developing trust. Having the trust of a client is very empowering and I treat it with great privilege and responsibility. I would also say the moment someone realises we have solved a problem that has been a real concern to them, the sense of relief they feel is endearing.

What have been your biggest challenge(s) of the job so far?
Switching off, when I first became an Adviser I struggled to allow myself time to not think about the job. I now ensure I free my mind in my evenings and weekends, whilst still being there for my clients to offer the support and guidance they require.

In three words, sum up your job
Fun, rewarding, and enlightening.

Before working at Mathews Comfort, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I was a sports coach focusing on the sport of Inline Skater Hockey.

How would you describe yourself as an individual?
I am light hearted, patient, and optimistic… and a very bad dancer and singer. I was once described as “a 50-year-old trapped in a 25-year old’s body” and have assumed that meant wise beyond my years.
